How to choose an indian wedding photographer?

The golden question. There are, we're sure you know, hundreds if not thousands of wedding photographers around the country and worldwide. All claim to be the best, the most 'natural' and the most 'published'. How on earth do you go about choosing your wedding photographer?

Indian Wedding Photographer Style

What style are you looking for? What styles exist? How do you choose your style? It's a tough question and you may not know where to even start with this one - have you seen anything online that takes your fancy? Did you friends or family have a wedding photographer who's style you loved? We describe our style as contemporary candid. It is 99% candid on the day with a touch of posing and editorial inspired portraits. It's a good combination of us blending into the background and taking the shots you need, with a little bit of direction when needed. Every photo we take is framed to ensure it looks professionally taken. And of course, our signature edit is then applied to the photo.

Some couples may want a huge amount of posing and direction. They may have a certain aesthetic in mind and certain photographers will be able to caputre this better than others. Do you want those moody editorial portraits? Do you want nothing like that and want to keep it completely natural?

Indian Wedding Photography Budget

Indian wedding photographers vary in budget. You'll get those just starting out in the industry who are able to offer super cheap packages with the caveat of very little expereince. On the other end of the scale, you'll have those who are very experienced, well known and published in magazines worldwide. You will pay for the latter. A lot. In the middle of the pack, there are hundreds of very good, very experienced photographers who will capture your day perfectly. Get quotes from 4-5 photographers whose style you like. See whats included - ensure all travel and expenses are included. You don't want to be stung with hidden costs. Make sure the pricing includes enough coverage on the day - you don't want an akward conversation on the dancefloor when your photographer asks for more money to stay a little longer! For a full day Indian wedding and reception on the same day, aim for 13-14 hours coverage on average.

Do I Like the Photographer?

Ok lets put aside budgets and style. Do you actually like the person? You will spend most of the wedding day with this person. They will see you getting ready, walk down the aisle, cry when you hug your parents, see you getting annoyed if things are running late, and everything in between. You will, whether you like it or not, be in very close contact with your photographer on the day. Please please please speak to your potential photographer before the day. Book in a call, a Zoom call or meet in person. Just something to ensure you get on, can have a laugh and are on the same page with regards to expectations. If you think they have an ego, or don't seem as experienced as they make out, forget about budgets and style - run a mile. You want them to be calming, confident when things dont work to plan, and fun on the day! We remain friends with most of our couples - we've seen them at their happiest and managed to get them through the tough parts of the day. You form a bond that you probably won't with any of your other suppliers on the day. So in summary - make sure you get on with them!

Why choose Jagatiya Photography?

Good question! We don't like blowing our own trumpets - as we've said there's a photographer for every couple. We have 2 aims when couples book us - we want you to love your photos, and we want you to have the best day. We aim to be the most stress-free supplier you book - whether thats responding quickly to your questions before the day, to being a calming presence on the day. We don't want you to stress about us going MIA a few weeks before the big day. We're sure you'll love the photos but most of all we want you to have enjoyed the day with us. Have a laugh, take some great shots, relieve the day with your closest pals. Simple.
